Depart the city of Cape Town and make your way inland to the Sutherland. We recommend you take the scenic drive through the town of Ceres and onto the R46 and R356. This back road route may take longer to travel but the scenery of the nearby Tankwa Karoo is breathtaking.

Sutherland to Oudtshoorn (via the Swartberg Pass)
Today, your journey takes you away from the Karoo and into the heart of the Western Cape’s famed Garden Route. Your drive will take you via the town of Prince Albert and over the Swartberg Pass, which is arguably one of South Africa’s most picturesque passes.
You can take your time exploring the 23 km pass with numerous viewpoints along the way. Your Suzuki Jimny will be at home on the sandy roads and rugged terrain, allowing you to explore the pass at your own pace.
Once through the pass, it is a short drive down to the town of Oudtshoorn and your accommodation at AfriCamps Klein Karoo.

Your journey today will take you out of Knysna, heading west to De Hoop Nature Reserve. With the Jimny as your adventure vehicle, we offer you a unique route away from the popular N2 highway, allowing you to explore the lesser-known roads of the Garden Route. An early departure from Knysna will allow you to enjoy sections of the Seven Passes Route between Knysna and George.
Further down the N2, we once again take you off the main road and onto the dirt track to Malgas, where you will cross the Breede River by a local pont before continuing on to the De Hoop Nature Reserve – a sanctuary of pristine wilderness and coastal beauty.

Start your day early and head to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent, for a memorable photo opportunity. From there, take the scenic coastal road through Hermanus, known for its whale watching, and continue through Betty’s Bay, where you can visit the charming penguin colony, before arriving in Cape Town.
Alternatively, opt for an inland route to explore the picturesque Elgin Valley and the renowned Cape Winelands, where you can indulge in wine tastings and gourmet dining experiences.
